Miltonia/Miltoniopsis Phal? I think I need some clarification.
On the Pot of the sick Phal I acquired, there was a label but alas it read only Miltoni... and then the rest is gone. Most of the rest of the remaining label is too illegible to read.
So I did some digging, but I'm getting more and more confused. It is definitely a Phal, or so I would think from the leaves... At least it doesn't actually look like a Miltonia! The Flowers are apparently quite large, but that's not a great description and I apologize (acquired after blooming) and the colour... White maybe a bit of yellow, but they couldn't remember exactly. All the Pics I have seen anywhere close to the name were not white and or not Phals. The Pot and Label are original to the plant and by the sounds of it was a very pretty gift. Any other labeling was unfortunately disposed of. Sorry in advance for not being able to post pics of the plant, but as it's not in bloom anyway I'm not sure that matters too much  Is this an actual Hybrid? Or just some weird naming thing done by shops, like calling it Moth rather than Phal? I guess I just need someone to point me in the right direction to understand what was meant by the label. Even if it's a Noid I'm not bothered, but it would be nice to understand. And thanks for any help. |
It was probably mis-labeled.
The plant growth of a phal is very different from milt. Phals are monopodial and do not have psuedobulbs. Oncidium allliance orchids are sympodial and have psuedobulbs. |
Yep, that's what confused me, because I knew what I have is a Phal

Never mind, I'll get my head round this naming and identifying thing one day. And at least the search has taught me a little about Miltonias. Cheers for getting back to me on this! (Phal's home designation remains: Phal Mutant 2) ;) |
