Cym. goeringii spiking ?
My goeringii has been staying outside throughout the winter and it looks like it started showing a flower spike. I am not sure whether or not I should leave it outside or bring it inside. As for the outside temparature, it has been a very mild witer in Pacific Northwest, the highs are around 45 - 50F and the lows are around 40F.
Thank you for your advise. |
Is there a danger of frost in your area?
If there is a danger of frost then I'd give it protection. Bringing it inside should prevent frost damage, but you risk the chance of bud blast. Since it is warmer inside then the buds will develop faster, but I suspect the colour will not be as deep (though I am not 100% sure) |
Thanks, Fren.
I don't think there will be a danger of frost any more. I will leave it outside for now. |
Molly,
Actually, many Cym. goeriingii varieties grow in very cold conditions and I have seen photos with snow covering the plants. The biggest danger is cold rain during the bloom initiation/development, which will very quickly rot the buds CL |
