Thanks so much for this info. Now I can update my list.
It frustrates me when I see only letters listed but no name. I didn't know where to look for the names. I appreciate all your knowledge about anything related to Vandas. You seem to be a living textbook and thanks for sharing all this knowledge with us. Marilyn |
You're welcome Marilyn. I agree that seeing only abbreviations can be frustrating.
Many of the orchid databases include a key / abbreviation list. I looked up your queries in the AQ Plus program, but this info is also available via the RHS website (a free resource). BTW, whenever you see a generic name that ends with -ara, these are always complex hybrids with at least 3 distinct genera in the background. Coronadoara and Fuchsara (in vandaceous alliance) are named for Michael Coronado and Robert Fuchs, owners of RF Orchids. In your list, you mentioned PSSV but I could find no such thing. Closest match is Psv. - Prosavola, a cross of Prosthecea (Epi.) and Brassavola (my favorite representatives of the Cattleya alliance. Happy growing!. |

The RHS site is not the easiest place to navigate so the the here is the direct link to the RHS's list of abbreviations. Unfortunately, the list is alphabetically ordered by the genus name and not the abbreviation, which is great if you're writing labels but not if you're reading them. |
Just to iron out details...Paraphalaenopsis is not intergeneric.
