Vanda started dying from the top.
3 Attachment(s)
This is my Vanda Brunnea x tessellata x Kultana Fragrant which I got last year. I noticed that leaves around the old spikes are dying. It almost looks like rotting. On the other hand, there are 4 keikis growing at the bottom ( one with a seedling size ). I am not sure what to do now.
Should I cut the infected section off? If so, do I need to put something on the area so that the infection does not go through to the lower part? I appreciate your input. |
Is the brown part soft ? if not it might be just the outer skin, I have a couple that have done that what you get is a turkey neck does not look good but does not hurt the plant , if in time it grows roots above the naked part it can be topped (cut off ) and the top re started ..

Hi Naoki,
Gin posed a good question..."is the brown part soft?" If it is...and I suspect it might be because you mentioned the leaves died and it looked like they had a rot...I would cut the top of the plant off. Make sure that your cut is clean and no brown is showing in the exposed stem. If there is brown showing, clean your cutting tool and remove an additional 1/2 inch of stem. Do this until you have a clean looking exposed stem section. At this point, you can treat it with a good systemic fungicide like Diathane M-45. I would make a paste from the fungicide powder and brush it on the exposed stem. Your plant will do fine, and the keikis should grow quickly. I've had to do this to a few of my vandaceous plants over the years and have had good results. Of course, if the brown part is not a rot, just follow Gin's suggestion. :D i hope this helps. |
Thank you, Gin and David.
Yes, the brown part is soft and spongy. I now have to go to a nursery at which I found a cute Ascda. today. Although I closed my eyes and walked away from it, I wonder if the little guy might follow me home next time. Anyway, thank you guys!!! |
