Degarmoara Winter Wonderland 'White Fairy'

This is a trigeneric cross between Miltonia, Brassia, and Odontoglossum. It has a few mostly white flowers about 12 cm (5") across on a more or less horizontal spike (in this case, though, I've staked it up; looks better IMO and takes up less space). They also have a very nice sweet perfumey scent which I have found is stronger at night, but that might be just me. This is it's first bloom since I bought it in flower in October.

Great job! I posted a picture of mine in the Orchids in bloom forum. Mine has not developed a scent yet! Thanks for the name of the crosses. My tag does not include White Fairy:scratchhead:

Well, White Fairy'd be a clonal name, meaning that all plants with the name Degarmoara Winter Wonderland 'White Fairy' are clones of the original Degarmoara Winter Wonderland 'White Fairy'. Clonal names like this are usually only given to "special" plants that are somehow better or different from the rest of the grex.

If you ever need to find out the parentage of any hybrid, go here. You can also do a search to see if any two plants have been crossed before for hybrid registration... This page searches the RHS database, which is the official database for orchid hybrids.

Yes thanks, I think it's lack of light and being stuck in northern latitudes it has to stay indoors at this time of year, as I can't heat the greenhouse to that amount. I'll try it outside if we ever get a summer again
