So what other plants do you like?

So, what other plant families are you all into?
Forexample, I am a fledgling aroid enthusiast.
Aroids all belong to the family Araceae.
Here are some pics of my little collection.
THis is Pistia stratoites, a water lettuce.

This is an anthurium which I have not been able to bloom yet. Its probably some sort of hybrid.

The big light green plant here is a Syngonium podophylum. This will never bloom on me unless I let it grow wild. Until then it will forever be in its immature state. I like it cuase it grows like a weed, under wet or dry conditions, or even soiles conditions.

This one is Agloeanema commutatum. It blooms little white-greenish flowers that looks just like anthurium flowers, in the summer time. Then it produces berries that through the year change color from green to vibrant orange, to red. THen I plant them and I get new plantlets!

THis is an Anubias barterii. Very popular in the aquarium trade. I like it cuase its in Aroid and give those distinctive Aroid blooms:

Here is another Anthurium Hybrid I got, no explanation necessary

These lance shaped leaves are known as Cryptocorynes. I have two species here. Like the Anubias, they are popular among aquarists, but again, I like them cause they are Aroids. I haven't gotten them to bloom yet, but soon :muahaha:

THis is a Philodendron micans, very beautiful leaves. Its called devils vine? But its a slow grower. Don't know If I can ever get it to bloom or not.

Up until last month, I had this one, but I killed it.

ANyhow, I have more such as Anthurium clarinerum, Syngonium rayii, Peltandra virginica, Anubias coffeefolia, Anubias frazeri, and Anubias nana.
I was also treated to seeing a possibly new species,
though mistreated it maybe as it has come straight from the jungle.
Dracontium sperlingi

And I am caring for some Elephant ears sp. the plant where you get Taro root from.

There is an Aroid Society, check it out!

So what are you favorite plant families, or groups besides orchids? :cheer:

I like all the classic bulbs...tulips, lilies, daffodils, etc. but sadly I don't have any because I live in an apt. someday...

in the apt, in addition to orchids, I have a christmas cactus (about to bloom for the 3rd straight year), a chenille plant, a pretty ratty fuscia, an anthurium (continuously blooming since I got it), a gigantic noid succulent from ikea, a bunch of bamboo, a little pokey cactus, and some noid ikea tropical house trees.

I don't grow much in the way of house plants...I kill them. This year alone I managed to kill two spider plants...no I am not kidding. If it's not an orchid i forget to water etc and when i remember it is too late. Actually I did keep both spider plants alive for a year but it was a losing battle. I do have to Clivia miniata that do okat for me...butthey are orchid like so I don't forget to water them...once in awhile. And they even bloom for me every year!!! I also have this tree like thing; no idea what it is, that's been alive for almost two years now. :cheer:

My Christmas cactus however....well that is on the verge of compost. How I ask you can i kill one of those? :blushing:

I even confess to killing all the greenery plants I buy for shows. I manage to keep them alive for the show season...then they DIMP.

Interesting pics - thanks for posting them.

Here are a few other types of plants I like:

Native trees
Fruit trees
Roses
Cacti
Gingers
Cannas
Medicinal herbs

At least that's what comes to mind right off. We have other assorted things in the landscape also and a few houseplants. Over the years, I've taken an interest in a wide variety of plants.

I'm like Wendy; religious about watering my chids but the other houseplants don't get the same attention. But I do have a huge monstera in the grow room thats tied to the wall for support but even then I forget to water it.

Tindomul 11-19-2006 06:14 PM

OOO! Monstera would do well in my Aroid collection!
Marty, that little floater is a Salvinia natans, or maybe S. molesta. Not sure.
