Has anyone used Epweb
 

I have a new Darwinara and some Epiweb. I am thinking of planting it, bare root, in a mesh pot with some Epiweb. Would this be wise?

Has anyone used Epiweb, and what were the results?

Hi Marilyn! I have one of the project plants (Laelia reginae) in a epiweb basket full of epiweb chuncks. I treat it as if it were a mounted orchid and it loves it! I also have a Lc. Schilleriana mounted on a slab of epiweb (actually 2 slabs put together for thickness) and it is loving it as well! I water it daily as well. I like that it doesn't grow any funky fungus's like my stick mounts do! I was really pretty close to putting my Aerides houlletiana in a epiweb basket with chunks as well but the basket is just to large for any of my orchidariums and that is the only reason I didn't use it!

It's good to hear from someone who has actually used it. I bought some, put it in my garage, and haven't had the courage to try it. I have 2 Darwinara,Fushs Cream Puff X self, which were not expensive, so I may try it on that to see what it would do. The other one I put in leca, not S/H, in a black mesh basket.

I only have a couple of mounted plants.....they hate me, so I would not try that.

I have never personally used epiweb because I dont know where to buy it but some freinds of mine use it with net pots to grow their mini catts and vandas and they have had really good results so far. They use the chunks the hold the plants in the pot and allow it to engulf the entire container to have something like a mini ball of flowers. they use it with Vandas to keep some sort of moisture at the root level and prevent dehydration, It gets like <100 here with no humidity so hanging vandas without media is not an option outside of a green house. With the way it dries so rapidly it would probably be best for cattleyas, vandas, and dendrobiums who like to dry out fast but still need a little moisture.

It's not really expensive for something that doesn't break down and decompose ;)

Marilyn, I use it for mounts and I have a few vanda-types in it using a net pot. I also use it to stabilize seedlings in their pots.

You didn't state how you were going to use it. I used the cubes to "pot" a vanda. The pictures I hope to attach show the plant and an example of the cubes (about 1 inch on a side)
I also have a naughty Tolumnia mounted on a slab but I'm embarrassed to show that.
