Hello From Traverse City, MI
Greeting, fellow orchid addicts!
I was turned on to this forum by a member from our local orchid society (Thanks Adam!) I've been growing orchids for about 7 years and now grow them in a small greenhouse attached to my house. My favorite orchid genus is Vandas, but living in northern Michigan makes them a challenge. I still have a few but I feel they survive, rather than thrive here. My second favorite are Bulbophyllums. Next on the list would be green and/or spotted Cattleyas. After that, just about anything pretty, which encompasses the rest, right? hehe I look forward to talking with everyone and hopefully grabbing as much knowledge that my brain will suck up! Good Growing! -ken |

Hi Ken,
Welcome to the OB :waving I too love Vandas...they are my favorite chids. Although I live in a different environment than you, I have been able to get them to thrive...so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. There are lots of other Vanda growers who frequent the board as well...so you're bound to get mucho information. :) I look forward to future posts and pics from your collection. :D |
:welcome: Welcome from another Michigander. I live west of GR. I also love vandas and grow them in my basement under lights. I can even get some of them to bloom :cheer: It's not Florida but hey, we Michiganders need to improvise.
I had hoped to go to the Chicago Festival but that is not going to work out. I wanted to go to Natt's, but the next best thing is to send him an e-mail asking about certain ones (3) which I want to have mailed. I'm waiting to hear back from him. My dream :cloud9: is to some day, wander through his greenhouse and drool.....maybe some day. My son has a small greenhouse and garden center in Harbor Springs, not far from you. I hope to go stay with him a couple of days this fall. Fall is so beautiful in your area. |
