NOID Onc. Var. Any guesses?
I've been patiently waiting for this to rebloomm so that we would have at least a chance of id-ing it. And finally, she has shown her pretty face. I'm certain it has at least Onc. and Brass. and I think one more "parent", but as far as a name I'm drawing a blank. Any takers?

Its a Miltassia, possibly Olemec or second choice would be Miltassia Shelob.

There we are! Thanks a bunch Karren. As soon as I saw Olmec bells started ringing! I'm sure that was the original tag, although after looking at some pictures I wonder if it was mis-marked at time of purchase. I think the blooms look much more like the Shelob then the Olmec, however the leaves seems to lean more toward the Olmec side. Also she doesn't seem to produce more than 2-3 blooms per spike, and from the pictures I've seen Shelob seems to put out more? Would a picture of the whole plant be helpful in narrowing the choice?

Def Miltassia, and I'm going to go with Miltassia Shelob. Here is a thread with a pic of mine from ealier in the spring. The lip got a bit washed out with the flash but you get the idea.

I agree with Paul. The flower, though a little paler in colour, looks exactly like my Mtssa. Shelob 'Red Spider' which is in bloom at the moment with eight flowers on the spike. :)

I agree with the flower looking alike, but I am wondering about the amount blooms per spike. All of the pictures of Shelob that I have seen, have had a great display of 8-10 bloom on a single spike. Mine has never produced more than 2-3 per spike. Although it's first year it had 8-10 spikes.

The nursery was probably growing it under best conditions for blooming so it had a large number of flowers. Once it transitioned outside of the nursery, it may not be getting the same conditions so flower production is reduced. |
