Clowesia Rebecca Northen anticipation
2 Attachment(s)
Buds on Clowesia Rebecca Northen 'Grapefruit Pink' are developing nicely. I think I count 10 spikes.. there could be another 1 or two yet to emerge. It's going to be a good show in a month or so,

Yowzah!
I've got one started and I'm excited about that but yours is going to be phenomenal! |
Thanks... it just gets better year over year. Looks pretty sad leafless... older p-bulbs have some shriveling though the newer ones don't, and then the spikes appear. New growth won't start until about the time it actually blooms (in a month or so), so no watering for probably at least 3 more months maybe 4.

Holy cow, can't wait to see it!
|
Rebecca Northen is such a great plant, my mother plant has > 25 spikes right now. I made 6 new plants this year out of keikis and all of them are spiking.
|
That's cool!

Kinda want one or two. Is growing Clowesia pretty much the same cultural care as Catasetum? Not that I'm doing great in my Catasetum-growing skillset yet. But might as well practice on both...
|
Clowesia culture is the same as for Catasetum. This one (and its relatives) is especially nice because they bloom in the dead of winter, while they're completely dormant. And very fragrant.
|
Just noticed I now have 2 spikes!!!!
8 more to go to catch Roberta but I'll never live long enough to catch Claw. |
Spikes sneak up on you. Very insignificant when they start, nestled between dormant p-bulbs. They propagate pretty fast, so it may not be so many years! I grow mine in relatively shallow bulb pans, so they can spread out.
