Couple of culture questions (D. lindleyi, Galeandra magnicolumna)
Hi Everyone,
I just have a couple of quick culture questions! 1. My Dendrobium lindleyi bloomed profusely this spring. The flowers have since wilted, so I cut the spikes off after they dried out. I noticed it wasn't putting out new bulbs or leaves. This week, I saw it was growing another spike-should I cut the new spike off to encourage vegetative growth or let it bloom again? 2. I've recently acquired a Galeandra magnicolumna but was struggling to find culture info on it. Should I grow it like a catasetum? Thank you all! |
First, Welcome!
Cutting spikes won't inspire growth, will just deprive you of enjoying the flowers. Let the plant "decide" what it wants to do. And be grateful! Den. lindleyi is notorious for going multiple years without blooming. So enjoy it while it is producing! I can't help you with the Galeandra, but I am sure that others will jump in with suggestions. |
Thank you so much Roberta! I mainly grow species as well and can't help but admire what you've gotten to bloom (especially the Angraecum sororium, I'm working on a seedling right now).
I'll sit back and enjoy the blooms! |
