Orchid spike or root?

I rescued this orchid this past spring. Someone was throwing it out. It was not in bloom. It has grown one new leaf, and another is starting. I expect I have a new root, or could it be a spike?

Spike! Coming right out of the center of a monopodial Phal, it is sometimes called a terminal spike, but healthy phals will usually keep growing… either just putting out leaves as usual or producing a basal growth, or both. Nice find, it will be exciting to see what the blooms are like!

Same orchid….this growth is at the bottom of plant. Root?
Basal growth, as in Keiki?

Looks like a root. Bright green tip, then as it grows the older part turns shiny white.
