Is this normal colour for new growth?
1 Attachment(s)
The new leaf is quite burgundy at the heart. Is this normal or is there too much light?
|
Very normal. As the leaf gets bigger and the chlorophyll develops it will get greener, and also firmer in substance. Congratulations on the new growth!

Oh good! I’m quite proud of my new leaf, and didn’t want to screw it up!:)
|
Probably the flowers will be pink or something around it.

This orchid was being given away and I took it……it wasn’t blooming. I was hoping it was anything but pink, because I have a pink one. Oh well…..it will be gorgeous if it blooms, whatever the colour.
Just had a thought….i may have to buy another that is not pink just to balance it out! Doesn’t count in my plant total as it’s a multiple! |
It will be a different pink from the one you have.
|
How can you tell the colour?
|
You can't... but you can reasonably expect that a different plant will have different flowers, there are so many. The guess about "pink" was from seeing red pigment in the new leaf. When the flowers have red pigment (anthocyanin) that pigment also may show in the leaf, especially with high light. In fact, on a mature leaf, the color can be an indicator that it's near the upper edge of the light that it wants (think "suntan") On the immature leaf, it just does it.
