Angraecum Veitchii
I have an old Ang Vitichii one of the people in my orchid club gifted me. She had it in a huge pot and said she's had it for years and it has done absolutely nothing for her. No growth, no new roots etc.
After taking it home, I immediately repotted it. I did find a few dead roots, which I snipped off. It's back in it's same pot, but with new media. It is in a small hobby GH, watered 1 - 2 times a week because of the heat, and misted daily. Humidity is high, and there's a fan one continually moving air. Nights are in the 60's sinve the GH is always left open. So my question becomes - are these very slow growing plants? Suggestions on care? Thanks all.... |
They're slow. Sounds like your conditions are fine. I am sure it is grateful for the fresh medium. Nights in the 60's F are fine - actually, it can go a good bit cooler so no fear if there's a dip. If it's hot, I'd water more. Beyond that, just patience. It may take a year or two to recover. But once it does, these can be very floriferous.
(I did correct the spelling in the thread header so that the thread will show up in searches. ) |
Thank you on all points.

Angraecums are generally thought to strongly resent root disturbance. I would not cut their roots for any reason.

Well, slowly, she's growing. Now if I can just find out what Jack fertilized his beanstalks with I'd be all set!

My Angraecums have enjoyed semi-hydro— more than any other genus, they really have taken to continuously available water. Might be something to consider.

Just another update. He's still growing well. The most recent leaf is waking up and starting to spread out.
Dalachin, I may try giving it more water as you described. The GH gets over 100 degrees F in the daytime, even with 60% shade cloth, but humidity remains high and there's constant air movement, so it seems to like it. I will try a little more water however. I'd love to see this guy bloom. |

Just a quick follow up. She's bloomed for me and is growing well. I guess she just needed some TLC, which I love doing to my plants.

Very nice! :)
