I believe this plant is now considered to be a phalaenopsis. I have one that has grown happily in a pot, with large, chunky bark medium, for more than 10 years. You'll want to be careful to minimize root damage when you pot it up, though, if the plant is well established on the mount.

Thank you for your response.

only chiming in cause we have had good results with these in pots. supposed to be part of the phal group now, and it does grow fine in the same conditions as our hybrid and species phals. normal bark mix, avg temps and humidity. i will say that ours, at least, seem to sulk more in the winter than the other phals tho (granted we only have one and a half winters to make these observations), and im personally still not like at the 99% confidence level i am at with our other phals. so take that what its worth. |
Thank you

I bought a small one at a show in 2019. It spiked and bloomed with four flowers the following spring, 2020. It did not spike in 2021, nor has it spiked this year. Reluctantly, I will be taking it to the raffle table at my society's next meeting, and hopefully someone else can do it justice. Mine is potted in a three-inch pot with Orchiata as a medium. It has healthy leaves and roots, but I guess that some combination of my temps, lighting, and/or humidity is not optimal for producing flowers.
Fishmom, yours is beautiful! :) |
Thank you

Thank you, Mountaineer370. Mine is in an indoor "tent" greenhouse, so normal household temps at night, but warmer (to 85 degrees) in the afternoon as the sun hits the window it is next to. It is behind a translucent drape, so filtered bright light in the afternoon, and LED lights in the morning. It has bloomed very reliably since it got some size to it, though when it was small I was afraid it would never flower. It is in a 5" pot.
