COELOGYNE ROCHUSSENII- OR- the waiting is the hardest part II
I bought this plant as 3 pbulbs from a seller at i think a 2018 show.
this plant was very popular at the time and they were selling huge plants for huge $ and i humbly asked if they had any smaller plants but not the single bulb (take a risk or wait a lifetime) deals. she very nicely went under a bench and produced this one- in a small pot packed with sphag and she made me promise to neither repot nor water it until new growth. i agreed, paid and abided by the deal...new growth did not come until over a year later........ at this point i was over the plant and i felt i had done enough of keeping my word and i was going to do what i i wanted to initially and mount it with a nice reservoir of sorts. now, i am not ripping that lady. she hooked me up, she gave me what she thought was the best advice for the normal grower and i think that she could not have been more wrong LOL here is the plant today. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f340a0e4_c.jpgUntitled by J Solo, on Flickr and here are 4 of the 6 spikes forming!!! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...330a0311_c.jpgUntitled by J Solo, on Flickr stay tuned, at this point, the waiting becomes much easier!!!!! |
If it is like my tomentosa, it will take only one week for the spikes to have all blooms opened.

Oh wow! I hope so. That would be amazing

How the heck is that not on my "must have" list????
rbarata......if they develop that quickly can we assume the flowers are short lived? OK.....my list has been fixed! Looks like a good one DC. Nice work. |

scent note- in the morning this is almost overpowering
i was doing some work in the lath house last night and, while i could smell this, it was all B little stars filling the north yard. this AM i thought there was a rotten mango or some other super sweet fruit in the yard bc the sweetness of the smell was visceral and i could almost taste it. the scent was easily detectable across the yard at more than 50' |

Thank you for describing the smell, I find that particularly interesting to read about.
Beautiful plant, too! |
