Neostylis Lou Sneary Seedling Culture
I bought a hardened seedling of the above orchid and am looking for culture advice. How does raising falcata seedlings differ from the mature plant I already own?
I want to try this one in semi hydro but am unsure whether to repot right away or wait for spring. This one is currently in bark, which frankly does not work well under my growing conditions. Most of my plants are in pure sphag or S/H. Also, what about feeding or lack thereof during winter? Does this aspect differ when the plant is still so immature? Thank you for the help. |
Fertilization depends on your ambient conditions of temperature and humidity. Small plants of this won't want to be dry for long, but they need excellent air at the roots.

Winter indoors would be temps around 68F with RH 40-55% (I have to use a humidifier to achieve this). Outdoors we have temps around freezing or lower at night with high RH. I can provide as much light as necessary for almost any plant since I have southern windows (northern hemisphere) and grow lights.

In winter I would fertilize only once every 4-6 weeks; in summer more frequently. Let it get almost dry before watering in winter. In summer when it is nice and warm you can keep the roots moist as long as they have plenty of air. In a pot with something like bark, let it get dry between waterings.
