Repotting Brassavola Nodosum
 

I recently acquired a nodosum from a grower. It was blooming but when bloom faded it put out 2 new roots over the side of the pot below a new growth. They have now turned brown & mushy but put out another root higher on the pseudobulb. Since it is growing out of the pot, should I repot so as to give the new growth some medium on which to grow.

there's different varying opinions on repotting, how to do it, when to do it and lots of different methods.
I will offer some of mine.
So from initial observations the orchid looks slightly dehydrated. There are early signs of leaf wrinkling and the canes could certainly be plumper. So that is an indicator that most likely it hasn't got many functioning roots in the pot. Why did the new roots go mushy and die? Another factor to suspect the substrate is staying wet too long and is probably degraded.
That's what I see from looking at this orchid. What state the roots are actually in is just a guess, you would have to check, wrinkling leaves can happen from underwatering but I'd tip on a weak root system, looking at the moss layer and when it probably last had a repot.

So my concensus is yes give it a repot.

As you have observed it will just pour out over the pot growthwise so another reason to repot and place it so the new growth has space in the new pot.

In your climate growing it in a pot will be much more difficult than growing it bare-root. Just take it out of the pot, shake off the loose medium (don't be meticulous), attach it to a wire and dangle it somewhere in either dappled shade or a half day of sun. Water it every 2-3 days if it hasn't rained.

By the way, it's Brassavola nodosa. Latin adjectives agree with the noun in gender and number.

Looks like a B. nodosa hybrid to me. The species has succulent leaves that are nearly round in cross-section. Those seem to be more flat.
