NoID orchid, unknown genus. Please help ID!
I'm having trouble posting a photo (advice on that would be appreciated as well.) but here's a quick description: 5 growths, very fleshy leaves, fine roots, 4 leaves on a mature growth, growths arise from a short rhizome, spike is more than 2x height of plant, (no flowers yet though) leaves are strap shaped although not very long (maybe 3 inches at most) and the inflorescences arise from between the leaves. Anybody have any clue what this is? All ideas & suggestions appreciated!

I know... can't get them to post!

Welcome to the Orchid Board!
Most people need 5 posts before they can attach photos. You're 40% of the way there. Your plant sounds like a Dendrobium phalaenopsis or Dendrobium spatulata hybrid. Until you can post photos, keep it warm and moist. Give it bright light. Edit: Now you are 60% of the way to posting photos. Edit2: The plant shown in your gallery might be a Tolumnia. Edit3: Daryl Venable on growing Tolumnia |
Thanks a ton! I'll look into those & see if they match.
Update-- I forgot to mention, no canes! leaves don't get away from the pseudobulb at all. I was thinking cymbidium, but that doesn't explain the thick leaves. And the current spike emerges from the side of the most recent growth, not the center. ---------- Post added at 10:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:31 PM ---------- Tolumnia looks right! thanks for the help. Totally stumped me! |
I'm sure that once you can post a picture someone here will be able to help you identify your plant.

For posting, I am not sure that the 5 posts requirement is actually working... To post:
From the Quick Reply box, click "Go Advanced" A bit below the dialog box, you'll see "Additional Options", one of which is "Attach Files" and under that, a button to Manage Attachments. Click that and you'll get a pop-up window. Browse to the files, one at a time and select them. When you are done, click Upload. You'll see the files listed back on your main window under Manage Attachments. (Once you see them uploaded, you can close the photo screen) Then when you Submit Reply, we'll see them. |
