Miltonia in a humid environment like an Oncidium or mounted?
 

To clarify, I also have many Oncidium mounted but I wanted to get consensus

I have a few plants with Miltonia in their lineage and I grow them in the same manner as my Oncidiums but these are my first two Miltonia and I have read that they like to climb

I'm thinking that the "climbers" would do fine mounted, especially in your climate where keeping things hydrated isn't much of a issue. Mounting solves the problem of "How do I pot this thing without burying the old pseudobulbs or leaving the new ones hanging in air?"

But then, my own inclination is to mount whenever possible.. if the plants have evolved to grow in the sides of trees, why fight their natural inclinations unless necessary to meet some other cultural requirement?

Are you talking about Miltonia species? Which ones?

Miltonia includes things like M. spectabilis. Miltoniopsis contains the pansy-faced orchids. They are very different in cultivation. Both are used in different complex Oncidium hybrids.

Species like M. spectabilis really are walkers and climbers. They do well mounted. M. spectablis to bloom best needs to get so much sun the entire plant will be pale yellow. I would think you could tie one to a coconut tree. It would grow towards the light it wants.

The intergeneric hybrids that are mass-produced to be sold are typically selected for ease of pot culture, so I don't think you need to worry much about them.

Miltonia, specifically clowesii and phymatochila.

The distinction is so big that they really should have more different names lol

I think you should tie them to trees outside.

i will say i was surprised and excited to see a spike in the new growth this morning...??? who knows if it will make it after the move but nice!
