Anyone else noticing that the forum is sometimes slow to load?

Anyone else having issues with the forum sporadically loading really, really slowly or getting a "503 service unavailable" error? I've been getting this quite regularily in the past couple of weeks. Often I just need to wait a few minutes before trying again and then the page will usually load rather quickly.

I'm curious if it's just me, or if it's a problem for others. Yesterday evening I had to rewrite replies twice to threads because the page timed out after I clicked to submit the reply.

I've noticed the same thing, Camille. The 503 warning only comes occasionally, but it always loads slowly.

This has been an issue for me in the past, but as far as recently, I haven't had any issues until a day or two ago. I got a couple of 503 messages and, while I got on okay this morning, loading and posting is going very slowly.

I get that on and off all the time. I'm more inclined to think it has to do with what device I'm on, and the general traffic in my part of the world and ISP provider. But hey, I'm an old lady in self-isolation for the most part. I'll leave that up to the IT/TechnoGeeks to weigh in.

I do believe as self-quarantine grows, we'll either got a lot busier or a whole lot slower around here. :twocents:

PS I tend to notice slower load on my iPhone than my PC, which is why I tend not to do anything on my phone other than an occasional check in. If I want to reply, it's back to the PC. On the PC though, I get a lot more 503's. I've learned with more than a short response (i.e., I get long-winded) I usually do a cut/paste so I don't have as many do-overs.

I see this fairly often as well. I agree with WW, if my post after I hit the "send" button is slow, I copy it, so that the do-over is faster. I think that this is a server problem.

Yes

I also notice that it is often glacial in working my way up the "tree". I find that I need to go all the way up to the home page after looking at post(s) within a forum or else the fact that I visited those sub-forums doesn't get recorded (making it a challenge to figure out what I have and haven't looked at) and every step takes awhile.

Given the current situation, I'm unsure if the lagginess is due to the fact that many more people are using internet to work from home, or an issue with the server the forum is housed on. But I was having issues already over a month ago, before the proverbial sh*t hit the fan.

My original thought was to check if this was a problem for others and then pass on the message to Marty. But now I hate to bother him with trivial things when he might have his plate full figuring out how to keep his business afloat amidst the increasing lockdowns and restrictions.

I agree with the issues being ongoing for some time. And especially not bugging Marty about trivialities at present time. I'm sure his hands are full. Good Call Camille.

I disagree. Don’t forget that he makes ad money from this forum, so making it run well is also to his advantage.
