As much as i enjoy a mini and a tiny orchid, i also love me some giant, Jurassic Park, size orchids too.

i have this Vanda which is tripled over on itself here- all in total the main cane was 10.5' i had to separate this when the mount i made broke in a bad storm and it fell and broke the orchid- it became 4 others:)

People always ask, why do you grow in such large containers? Because you can grow such large plants! I like large specimen size plants and hybrid cattleyas can get pretty big. It can be hard to get plants to this size because the medium brakes down and then the plant gets chopped up into smaller plants. Never allowing it to get big, space can be at a premium. This is a NoID cattleya that is one of our first orchids. It blooms every year in late February and smells wonderful. The blooms are about 5” (13cm) and the plant is about 4 foot (1.3m) across.

Selmo, that is a beautiful plant!

That's a gorgeous plant Selmo!! I can understand why people chop up plants as too as they start to get a bit large, but then they miss out on that.

Coconuts, nice looking plants there, they must look great in bloom :)

I do have one orchid which is starting to get into the realm of specimen size. It's a Maxillaria tenuifolia which I've had for close to 10 years. It's in a 15cm pot and over 1 meter wide (3ft)

Yes, the smell is amazing! It produces over 50 blooms each year, so on a warm sunny day we can smell it as soon as we walk into the apartment! And the entire living room smells of coconut.

Cyms I break up to keep in 2 gallon pots... I have found that by the time they get to 3 gallon, I have trouble lifting them for the repot that they eventually need.

Dendrobium speciosum just keeps spreading out... don't even bother to repot, doesn't seem to care about medium once it escapes. I have several, that I now just ignore... past the point of being able to control them, and still small by standards of the species. When they run out of room to root downward, they do "bird's nest" roots pointing upwards
Den x delicatum (Specio-kingianum) can also turn into a beast, more manageable because the individual growths are smaller.
