Dendrobium Hibiki
Hi Everyone,
I am new to the orchid board. I used to grow orchids back in 2000 and then got out of it for awhile. I have since found my way back last year. :) I recently bought a D. Hibiki. It arrived in Sphagnum moss. I have read on these boards to keep the Hibiki moist; however, I have had no luck with keeping orchids on moss since they develop root rot. I am wondering what would be a good medium to repot the Hibiki in since I couldn't find anything on the threads? Thanks & Happy Growing! |
Do a search for Dend. Habiki on this site. I found a tread from 8/2013 that may contain some useful info.

For what it's worth, I have one growing in medium-small (about 1/4-3/8 inch) bark, and it seems to be doing quite well (blooming profusely, new roots) Smaller bark should work OK - based size on your watering practices. I used a terracotta pot for the weight, so it dries out a bit faster than it would in plastic, but I like to water so it works for me.

Roberta,
Thanks for the response. I was thinking about moving it to smaller bark. I also read about LECA which I thought I would try. |
