My two new Oncidiums - Onc. alexandrae & Onc. McBean's Samira
2 Attachment(s)
A couple of weeks ago, I received two Oncidiums that I've been dying to share with you guys. Now, one was in flower and the other in bud, so I can't take credit for the flowers. This post is mostly to document their beauty in case I am unable to meet their requirements. At the moment, giving them temperatures between 21 and 13 degrees Celsius is not difficult, but let's see how successful I am come summer or in the dead of winter. If - and that's a big if - I am successful, I'd love to grow more of these, but they are difficult to find in Europe.
To my surprise, neither is fragrant. Both have big, fat pseudobulbs, but I'm not sure if they have bloomed before. |
Well, they are very pretty. Good luck.

The white, frilly one is really beautiful!

Glad you shared these beauties!

Thanks, guys! The white one is Oncidium alexandrae, formerly known under the more legendary name, Odontoglossum alexandrae.
For the time being, I leave the window on the hatch with a 1/4 inch opening. Temperatures dip to 12 degrees Celsius at night. If I wake up early in the morning and check on them, I can’t help but feel it’s really cold in the room where I keep them. I have a couple of NOIDs with obvious O. alexandrae in them, and one of them developed a couple of necrotic, brown areas on the leaves. Not quite sure if it’s sun or cold damage. |
