Anyone growing Cattleya vasconcelosiana?
Need info about culture.
I've been investigating about it but I need actual experiences. Thank you |
No replies...maybe this one's not a common one in collections...
It seems it's scarse in the wild and it's now starting to show for sale. It's considered difficult and this is why I decided to try it. Anyway, I decided to buy one...The infos I got about its care are contradicting each other...some say it's warm grower, others it's cool...some say it needs plenty of light, others say it needs some shade.... Even Orchidwiz doesn't say much... Its habitat is more or less the same as others bazilian rupiculous so I guess the main difference is habitat elevation. Here's some photos of the habitat (called campos rupestres, a sub-bioma of the Cerrado, which is like a savanna). Here's a collection of photos of the plant...in general it seems to be in good condition, in spite one deformed leaf. The vendor told me it was reppoted last year so it's there for sale for, at least, one year. The best medium is the one used in general for rupiculous: stones + moss. This one seems to have orchiata with a top layer of rocks. Not the best...but I'll keep it to see what happens. https://i.postimg.cc/RC8ChtgL/20190331-214805.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/fWvFgQ9t/20190331-214820.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/NfJnB8bQ/20190331-214829.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/4xjFhJrM/20190331-214839.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/wBJ4XCzB/20190331-214854.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/RZWDF3bK/20190331-214909.jpg |
Update on this one... I think it has a new growth as well as a visitor/resident in the medium.

Update on this one...new growth is starting to show.
It has been under filtered sun (approx. 2500 fc), days with temps above 35ºC (95 F) and RH<20%. This is not good, especially the low humidity but I've been watering it when I get up, before sunrise. This is compensated by much lower temps at night (17 to 13ºC / High 50's~low 60's) and HR>40%. So, let's see how it reacts as I've put it outside last weekend together with my milleri. A little bit bigger...it takes forever to grow. Not sure if this is normal or if it doesn't have the best conditions.
Maybe it's too hot and dry now. https://i.postimg.cc/fRF8Dcjb/20190528-182759.jpg |
