Trichopelia sauvis

So, I'm watering today. I went to the Ann Arbor show last weekend and I'm a little behind, and I guess unobservant. I got this Trichopelia last year and it's just puttered along. Today when I picked it up to water it I wondered what on Earth was hanging over the pot. Surprise! Two buds. I never saw it coming.

I've noticed this with my T. suavis.

The growths develop fairly slowly, taking the better part of a year to fully grow and mature.

The flower spikes, though? Development is impressively fast. One night there can be nothing noticeable, then the next day there's an inch long spike protruding from the media, a few weeks later, the enormous buds are cracking open.

Do you have a picture of that?

How nice! I think we're all familiar with waiting and hoping for new spikes and buds......and waiting and hoping and waiting and hoping. So it's especially fun when a plant decides to just surprise us! :)

Well done - do share when they open!

Mine has been hanging in there for about a year. Some of the leaves formed in my care a crinkled, but the roots look okay. I don't think it enjoys fertilizer.

I am sorry to say, they blasted. It may or not have been my fault. This plant is hard to keep well watered.

Hey Dolly! Is this plant from last year the same one you've been sending me pics of? If so....WOW!! That's some great growing in less than a year's time. Impressive.

Dollythehun 01-28-2020 10:22 AM

Yes. Same one. Soggy is the key, apparently.

Seriously amazing growth!
