Trader Joe’s mystery fragrant ???
6 Attachment(s)
Picked this up at TJ’s tonight!
Lovely orange blossom scent with a hint of decomposing oranges. Reminded me of running around our orange trees as a kid in SoCal. Anyway, the scent was very light and orange blossomy. When I got it home, it became more robust! |
Welcome to the Orchid Board!
I don't know which hybrid this might be. There are so many similar ones it's hard to tell them apart without a tag. But maybe you can talk to the flower manager at the TJ, who might be able to put you in touch with the grower. With a photo they might be able to give you the correct name. This has worked for other people here on Orchid Board. |
Hello and thank you, estación seca! That's a great idea! Thank you for passing that info onto me!
It looks somewhat like a Oncidium Sharry Baby "Tricolor" with a washed out pink/magenta color?? Does that happen? The scent is changing in the hours I've had it in my possession. Still very orange blossomy though! <3 Thanks again for the advice and welcome :) (I'm still really new to this and am a bit intimidated/want to make sure I'm making my orchid friends happy... and not dead.) |
Flowers may vary in appearance with varying conditions like light and temperature. This is another reason why it's not usually possible to put a name on a no ID plant.

Welcome aboard & nice buy there.
It looks a little similar to an Oncostele catatante I once had. |
Welcome! Nice find.
|
It is a beauty! Hello and welcome!
|
Welcome to the Orchid Board! I'm no help with identification, but that is a very nice find, and I sure do wish we could all share in the fragrance!

Thank you for the warm welcome, everyone! I ended up going back to TJ's and asking them if they knew what they ordered or had a stock list that would have the names on them. No luck, unfortunately.
If anyone has any guesses, feel free to share. I'm just really curious! I also may have gotten two more noID fragrants. The magenta one kind smells like artificial cherry scent and crayon wax and is rather strong. The burgundy and white one smells of a delicate vanilla. So neat! Also, super gorgeous <3 Here they are if anyone wanted to see the blossoms. |
Welcome! We love pictures but, I don't see any. Good shopping though.

Whoops! Here they are!
(also i'm still getting the hang of this and have no idea to delete this. i figured out how to edit my original post about the new noids lol) |
charlesf6, that's a gorgeous plant!!
|
Charles, that looks a lot like my Wilsonara 'Electric Orange.'
|
Orchid name
Oncidium orchid aka "Dancing Lady"! Just beautiful and indeed exotic!
|
Gorgeous plants! I'm no help on an ID. A NoID is a NoID, but those are beautiful. I really need to get to Trader Joe's and see what they've got. There's one in Fort Worth, that's only about a half an hour away. I need to get over there and check it out. As if I need more orchids. I don't even wanna think about how many I bought this week lololol. Sunset Valley Orchids had a sale, and I think I bought like ten plants lol. They're all miniature Catts tho, so they barely count. They take up so little space, I could easily have bought ten more  Plus my order from Hausermann. And my Order from Marlow. And also my order from Main Street Orchids. But I only got one from them, so that doesn't count haha. Yep, I need to go to TJ's and see if they have anything I need.
|
I picked up a fragrant peloric Zygopetalum from Trader Joe’s last week. As a bonus, when I got it home I realized there was an label stake in the pot listing the variety :-D
|
Lucky girl. That's rarer than winning Powerball!
|
When you're at the Trader Joe's orchid section, be sure to look at every individual plant of the variety you want to buy. I have noticed that much of the time, one or two of each kind has a name tag from the grower. The rest don't.
|
I’ve lucked out that way with a number of Phalaenopsis. The same thing happens at Albertsons and Vons on occasion.

I finally made it to Trader Joe's. I was in Fort Worth for something else, and the closest TJ's to me is in Fort Worth so I decided to stop and check it out. It's a cool store..They have lots of delicious stuff that I didn't know I needed until I saw it.
The orchid selection was disappointing. They only had one orchid and it was a Miltoniopsis that didn't look like it was in the best shape. They did however have a great selection of bromeliads. I picked up a really nice one. It's no orchid, but it's a very nice plant all the same. it had a color pattern I'd never seen before. I bought it, and I'm enjoying it very much. It's a good companion plant for my orchids. I'll try again sometime in the future. Maybe they usually have a lot of orchids, and they were just running low because a new shipment was about to come in. But anyway, i really liked the store, and I got a nice bromeliad out of it, so I'm satisfied with my first trip to TJ's. |
TJ has 500 gram / one pound bars of excellent Belgian chocolate.

They're in one of the center aisles on the shelves over the freezer section, near the other candy. They also sell really good chocolate covered raspberry and orange gels in a plastic tub that's great for raising humidity around an individual tiny orchid in a 2"/5cm pot.

:welcomeflowers: Sache!
And that's a really nice grab n go! |
You guys are so lucky. It would be great to have a shop selling orchids where you could just randomly treat yourself to something which isn’t a mass produced phal.
