A Sederia and a bunch of Phals
Some might remember that I mentioned last week how I missed out on a couple of Sederia japonica plants on eBay (I already have a couple). Well, after I bemoaned missing them, Seed Engei put up a lot of two, Nagoran and Seigyokumaru. The plants arrived today and Seigyokumaru is in bloom. The plant is smaller than a Phal. chibae, and as soon as I opened the box the fragrance filled my kitchen:
http://i1361.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1494981355 One of my Phal. sanderiana opened a first flower on Easter Sunday. I wish I'd used a longer stake for the spike because the flowers seem a bit pendulant - the spike is over 2" long and I used a 1" stake. Oops. http://i1361.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1494981511 A couple of weeks ago I posted the first flower from the left spike. Both of these Phal. equestrii are seedling plants, so blooming for the first time. I'm quite pleased with the number of flowers each has opened. I also have a peloric in bloom, an orange in bloom, two whites in heavy bud, and a blue in spike. Guess I like this species. (In the back right sit the remains of a Phal philippenensis recently savaged by a mouse). http://i1361.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1494981679 Phal. Tying Shin Fly Eagle 'Wilson' is a really cool hybrid. The previous flower had a slightly different color pattern, so I'm interested in seeing if there's much variation in her bloom. http://i1361.photobucket.com/albums/...pstubssi6m.jpg Here's the previous flower: http://i1361.photobucket.com/albums/...psakchcn7u.jpg My Phal. pulchra is a somewhat hard plant for me to figure out. One week, it's producing leaves and roots like nobody's business and then it takes a week or two off. The first spike to develop on the plant this year is now about 6" long and still without a bud, while the second spike came from lower down the stem, is closer to 3.5", and has produced this flower. http://i1361.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1494982204 Thank you for looking! |
I remember, and I believe I mentioned something like " there will be another one". Congratulations on your win, such sweet flowers! You seem to have a lot of gorgeous blooms currently, hopefully your phillippenensis will survive the attack.
You had mentioned a couple of Neofinetia you ordered from NWO, will you share pictures of those with us? Thanks for sharing your flowers! |

Wow, nice looking plants! Good size too. I've seen Diamond Orchids has had quite a lot of Neofinetia listed recently. I've not purchased from him in awhile but his plants are always nice and healthy. Your Shunkyuuden is one with larger, odd flowers I think. Very unique, thanks for posting pictures.
I love getting new plants! It's always nice seeing other's as well. Hope they flower soon. |
Wonderful! So exciting to get new plants.
I love the colour of the latest bloom on your Phal. Tying Shin Fly Eagle 'Wilson'. Gorgeous!!! At least your pulchra looks more 'open' than mine. Both my blooms look like they're cupping something. Maybe they're trying to give me a hug? ;) |
Congratulations on winning the sedireas. They are lovely, I really like the pulchra, I need to stop seeing plants I like - I have no room 🤔

Those are all beautiful. Lucky you to have a home filled with such vibrant colors -- and delicious fragrances from some of them!

Diamond Orchids is Peter T. Lin (not the Phal Peter Lin) and I believe he started the Fukiran Society of America. I don't know how active that is but there is a lot of info there.

The sideria japonica looks like a swan on a throne wearing a fancy polka dot napkin haha
