picked this up at swapmeet last weekend... and it just started to bloom... not sure what it is... after looking online, it sorta looks like a sarcochilus... but i am not 100% sure...
any guesses would be greatly appreciated... |
Definitely looks like a sarcochilus, but which one? I know there are new hybrids. It's a really nice color!

How do I take care of this...?

Definitely a Sarcochillus hybrid with S. ceciliae in the background.
The culture is intermediate to warm with medium to high light. Never let too dry. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Yes, it is Sarcochilus, or perhaps a mostly Sarcochilus intergeneric hybrid. Among the species I think only fitzgeraldii could have this appearance, but most Sarco. hybrids are at least partly fitzgeraldii, so there are a lot of similar ones out there. Getting a precise ID is unlikely.

Fair enough...
I just want to know how I should treat it... Thought about putting him in the terrarium with the gecko, but maybe not... Do they do well in SH or fwc...? Sent from my LG G4 Note using Tapatalk |
These pages were helpful to me with my first Sarco

I would just like to hijack this thread for a moment (apologies to gumbii) and say I read all those links and I am a little confused as to the different recommendations for light . SBO talks about Cattleya light, and the Aussie sites mention shade. I'm sure the different species require different light, but if you have a hybrid and you don't know the species in the background, how do you figure out the light ?

We have Sarc specialist in our OS.
Interm to Cool. Catt light is too high, more like Paphs. Deeper shade if it is very hot. Do not let go dry, and provide good air circulation. And yes, def a Sarc hybrid. |
Thanks,

These are very forgiving plants, will adapt to a wide range of conditions so you don't need to be over-cautious. |

i live in los angeles, north of long beach.. i plan to grow them outside in semi hydroponic setups... so bright shade would be under another tree..? i was going to put them under my car port... but i also have a shaded area that's covered by shade cloth at 70%... that's where i have most of my orchids.. since you said bright shade, i'll throw them with the others in the shade cloth... |
