Today I went to my first orchid show and it was GREAT! but I told myself I was not going to get any orchids, well that went out the window as soon as I walked in. I did have a little self control I only came home with two orchids rather then the 50 I wanted :D

here are some pics of the two I got let me know what ya think. The paph is a paph. venustum and the other is cattleya dowiana. I think there is a little fertilizer burn on the catt what should I do about it?

PS
sorry the pics are so bad the light in this house stinks

I did not think I could get the fertilizer burn to go away but I did not know if I should cut it off or not.

As for the self control it was sooo hard

here is a pic of the leaves.

No the leaves in the pot. Some of them have the multi-streak leaves at the bottom and some of them are just all the same color green. It looks like it might have the multi-streak leaves.

Those look great!! Glad you had fun at the show :)

To remove those marks from the cattleya leaves, just put a little bit of milk in a shallow dish, heat it up in the microwave so its hot/warm, and then with the rough side of your kitchen sponge, take some of the hot milk and gently scrub the catt leaves. Then, just wipe them dry with a damp paper towel soaked in water. That always works for me :) It is just the minerals that are dried on the leaf, no big deal, just gently scrub it off :)

Nice plants! :) I like Paph. venustum, the pouch looks like a green brain. I've long given up having self control at a show, there's just no way! So I leave the credit card at home, and simply take a pocket of cash. Can't spend more than I have on me! The only thing is that I feel obliged to spend it all...

Congrats on the first show and new purchases. Both look great. I really like the venustum pouch with all the veining.

The trick to dealing with lack of space is to buy only compact/mini plants! You can fit at least twice as much in the same space.

 Thanks for the tip

Minis also have the advantage of being easy to smuggle into the house, if you live with someone who doesn't completely approve of your orchid habit!  I've managed to get quite a few in, completely unnoticed. Until I got the remark one day "say.... I thought you had less than that??"
