Phal Yin's Green Jewel 'L'
2 Attachment(s)
Yet another solid pick-up from Peach State Orchids. This is a larger plant that had previously bloomed when I bought it, but couldn't resist a multiple spiked plant that had good breeding potential. It's in it's blooming prime right now with 14 buds on 5 active spikes, but this is the first couple flowers open. Color at the tip is a very light green fading to yellow to white towards the column. It's brushed with some interesting redish spots on the lower sepals. You can barely see it, but the dorsal sepal has a light brownish color halo right above the column which I really like. Form isn't the best, but flower is 5.1cm across, and with the bud count, I really like it.
Edit: Had to change the clone name, as it's been determined this was a previously named clone. Sadly 'L' isn't the best clone name... |
Gorgeous!

It's beautiful! I'm actually planning on visiting them this Saturday as I was unable to attend the orchid show this past weekend. Is there anyone in particular I should ask for that's willing to to answer a billion questions from someone new to this such as myself?
Sorry for Hijacking your thread :blushing: |
Sure, you can ask any to me directly (PM), or through all the awesome people on this forum. Let us know what you're interested in, and we'll go from there. Just message me, or start a new break the ice, or beginner forum thread, and post away.

I love green'ish flowers.. would love to see a pic of the whole plant in spike
and also the follow up of many flowers opened... If you have the time one of these days. Thanks that is a really nice Phal. |
Thanks for the offer I'm sure I will take you up on it! I'm afraid I didn't phrase my question well though. :blushing: What I meant to ask was is there anyone at Peach State Orchids that you would recommend me speaking with to pester them with my questions when I visit.

I've been primarily interested in orchids that can be grown indoors with bright indirect natural light. I find that I'm mostly attracted to phals, some of the cattleyas, and a few of the dendrobium. Other than the light requirement I'm not really picky on the appearance or the species I'm just drawn more to some than others.

Well go through PSO, and just pick a bunch you like. With a little tweaking, you can probably grow and bloom everything you're interested in. Just ask some questions of Mike while you're there, and us when you get back, and go from there. Guard your wallet though, he's got some really good stuff!

That is gorgeous. Nice photos, too.

I am STILL loving (and greatly coveting) this phal!!!

Very nice Plant.

Almost all the flowers are now open. A couple of the spikes appear to have stalled a bit, but oh well. Scent gets better with every bloom that opens.
|
Nice plant! The stalled spikes may begin once again when it warms up a bit more.
How would you describe the scent on this one? Judi |
