Orchids in Bloom: Stelis ciliolata

camille1585 01-18-2012 03:18 AM

I think that this has got to be my favorite of everything you posted today! I'm in love with it! Seeing the fuzz,it makes me think of that fuzzy toilet bowl orchid that I remember you posting quite a while back.

Plants like these are the reason some of us are nuts about species. There are so many different and unusual plants out there.

absolutely STUNNING. stellis and pleuro's are just such attractive little critters.... the flowers are surely small but just to stunning to ignore.....

unique, wacky, weird, ugly, different, they are all just amazing.....

good growing and thanks for sharing

ronaldhanko 01-18-2012 12:17 PM

Thanks, Niven. This actually has flowers that are larger than most Stelis - you don't need a magnifying glass to see them. They're about 1.5 cm.

Seriously cute, love the fringe. Good growing

Thanks, neighbor.

Lovely blooms. Really like how the black backdrop makes the white fringe POP!

Beautiful flower. The texture and form is very interesting...but I just love that kind of coloring

ronaldhanko 01-18-2012 07:20 PM

Thanks, Judi and Bud.

Beautiful!

Thanks.

1.5cm blooms? I'm not familiar with the genus, so I was expecting them to be much larger than that! Photos can be very deceptive. But small plants means you can have more of them!

Ron- Saw these on your website a little while back and they're on my mental wishlist now :)

We saw a Stelis vulcanica at an EPOS meeting (which I think has been synonymised with argentata) last year and was told in no uncertain terms that one of those was allowed in our collection by my GF (yay!). I've now got two Stelis (a vulcanica and an argentata 'Joinville'). Can't wait for them to bloom, although they're still quite small. :)

Awesome photo of it too!

Fantastic pictures. I love seeing this orchid and the white hairs make it just stunning. I love dark coloured flowers.

Many Stelis flowers are just millimeters in size, so this is pretty good for a Stelis.

Many of the Stelis are greenish-yellow to whitish, so these are very different in color from some of the others.

I remember the last time you posted this, but I love seeing it again! The white fringe really makes the blooms pop!

I may have to order one for myself come spring! ;)

Thanks, Evan.

As soon as they are, I'll certainly be posting pictures :) They're still quite small, and I'm still a rank neophyte, but hopefully, the plants will get around to it eventually!
