Garden Centre Masdevallia back in Bloom.

I couldn't believe it when I saw Masdevallia's in my local garden center. Even though I tend not to buy NoID's these days I couldn't resist this one which was in bloom at the time.

It's meant to be intermediate compared to other Masdies and I will probably keep it in the house over the winter (rather than the others being in the cool greenhouse).

I've been growing it in the green house over the summer and it seems really happy  It held it's first flower from when I bought it in mid May through to early July and is now already in flower again. This time with four flowers and a further three spikes still developing.

Here are some more pictures of the first flower from when I bought it, taken in May and June.

Wow! Great find!! I love how big the flowers are in comparison to the plant. Great color too!

They look astonishing for a garden center orchid - having seen some disasters in my time! lol

Looks a bit like the ubiquitous M. Aquarius. Nice work, Rosie.

Thanks everone. :)

This was the only one in bloom in the shop, and also looked to be the healthiest plant. Another one had 6 spikes but not such good leaves and part of me wanted to get the one with spikes and part of me said it was better to get the healthy plant and hope I could bloom it later. I'm glad I went with my sensible side and got the healthy one because it's rewarding me now :)

I know, so do I and a part of me resisted buying it because I knew I would never know, but the part of me that likes pretty flowers won and I'm glad even though there is a little regret it doesn't have a name.

Very nice find Rosie. It kind of reminds me of Angel Fling.
