Summer Project, 2011 (Intermediate) - Sign Up

Okay, at the sanction and support of RosieC and others, I am the leader of the 2011 Summer Project! So this will be a learning experience in several ways. Because I wanted to run one originally to get Canadians more involved, this will be slightly more geared towards Canadians.(Not trying to leave ANYONE out here, as I would LOVE to see lots join.)

The process:

1. Compile participants list. (You can sign up by simply replying to this thread)

2. Take plant suggestions and compile a list of plants that fit the criteria. (Which can be done here. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...tml#post403312

3. Vote for final selection.

4. Purchase final selection.

5. Share your new arrival, growing conditions, care tech., success or failure.

6. Have fun!

The deadline that I would like to set for the final decision for Project Plant is in the middle of July, so there is a LOT of time to ponder whether you will join or not! Thank you all for your support and for any help along the way as I do my first MP!

Because orchids are generally priceyer in Canada, that is why I set the limit where it is. Also, just because it is a certain price in Canada, it doesn't mean that it will be the same price everywhere else, so, in the US or ind Europe, I am sure the prices will be lower. Even though the average price here in Canada for an orchid is about $32, without shipping and taxes, I decided to round it up for 'safety' measures. Sorry for being unclear about this, I was up late doing this and my parents were trying to get me off the computer!

Call_Me_Bob 05-14-2011 12:16 PM

thats fine, i know how it is with parents! so the $40 includes shipping?

when i think of canadian prices vs american prices, i generally think of books ( because they have the prices for C and US listed on the back) but i didnt think about how its harder to get the orchids to canada. makes more sense now. thanks! and sorry for questions! :P

Daethen 05-14-2011 05:49 PM

I forgot to list my country, which is USA

silken 05-14-2011 10:02 PM

I will likely participate, depending what plant it is.

ezil 05-15-2011 10:33 PM

Depending what plant it is, I'm in (although a lot of the plants mentioned I have already, and others I have tried). I'm in Canada.

zxyqu 05-15-2011 10:50 PM

I'm in!

flhiker 05-15-2011 11:18 PM

Here's a list of orchid vendors in Canada. I used Clouds in the past but they require a minimum of 50.00 purchase.
Canadian Orchid Vendors

and European vendors search engine. Just type the name of the plant and it should give you a list of vendors that carry that plant.

FairyInTheFlowers 05-15-2011 11:53 PM

Not to be rude or anything, but this is the sign-up thread, so if you could please keep the chit-chat for later, and add the PP suggestions to the appropriate thread, that would be awesome! :)

flhiker 05-16-2011 12:03 AM

The titles are similar. I thought I was adding this info in the plant suggestion thread. Anyway Sign me up!

Um, isn't it a bit early to be even considering another project? Just wanted to point out that a lot of people haven't even bought the plant from the most recent project! I don't know if I'll join, I'll think about it. Just spent lots of cash on the last project...

Call_Me_Bob 05-17-2011 10:56 AM

i dont think it will be to early, by the time that suggestions get submitted, plants get picked for polls, voting, and then finaly making sure what plants are available, i think it will be a good enough wait from the last project

ELORCHID 05-17-2011 08:23 PM

Count me in

flhiker 05-18-2011 10:32 AM

Seems as though our project leader has gone missing?

nenella 05-18-2011 03:44 PM

Please count me in!

Love the trichoglottis too

Roly0217 05-18-2011 03:58 PM

I will participate as long as it's not a duplicate. My Gastrochillus japonicus should be blooming very soon. The buds are starting to swell up.
