I got this cute little orchid late September from an Italian vendor (Nardotto et Capello) with 2 spike nubbins starting to poke out, and now it's finally in bloom. :) It was on my wishlist for a very long time and I'm so glad I finally got one, I love this cutie!!

tucker85 11-28-2010 08:21 AM

Absolutely beautiful! and obviously well cared for. Congratulations.

RosieC 11-28-2010 09:32 AM

Gorgeous, and great pic of it. I can see why you wanted one, this may have to go on my wishlist.

Eyebabe 11-28-2010 09:46 AM

If you need further convincing, it's a mini! You're sure to find space on a windowsill for it.

Gin 11-28-2010 10:31 AM

Very pretty Cam . hate to tell u this but after several years it won't be a mini . I have one filling a 6 inch basket but it can be reduced in size . Gin

camille1585 11-28-2010 10:36 AM

Thanks for the warning, I guess it'll either need a bigger mount, or maybe I should pot it while it's somewhat removable from the mount...

Gin 11-28-2010 10:43 AM

I would leave it later on if you need too can get a couple of P bulbs from it they tend to stack them ,easy to remove .. it looks pretty and happy the way it is ..

camille1585 11-28-2010 10:54 AM

Do you have a pic of yours Gin? I'd love to see it!

LOL, you enabler you!

I don't need much encouraging though, even if it's going to get bigger I still keep finding room for them. I am starting to find the windowleges getting a little cramped though now.

Hubby keeps joking that he daren't pick up his coffee because I'll see it as a free flat surface and stick another orchid on while he's not looking :coverlaugh:

Your Lava Burst is beautiful. What's not to love about those vibrant red blooms. I must add this one to my rapidly growing wish list. ;)

greenbean 11-29-2010 12:11 AM

Congratulations Camille! That's a beauty!

Rosie, not that you need further enabling, but it's also tough as nails. Mine has never failed to bloom despite having no roots when I first got it 4 years ago, dividing it twice to keep it small enough to fit in an arrangement with cryptanthus and tillandsias, and leaving it in my parents' inexperienced care while I attend school. I love this gorgeous little trooper!

I'm thinking of putting part of mine on a mount like yours next time I divide it, Camille, since the pseudobulbs stack so much. In my growing conditions it's been a bit annoying trying to get the new roots to grow all the way down to the medium when the new growths get too high above it.

No idea how old mine is, it has 4-5 bulbs I think, and already has a good grip on the mount. I think I need to add some sphag over the roots though, because the bulbs are still starting to shrivel a bit despite daily watering.

 He does keep wondering how I will fit more in... and yet at the show just over a week ago he actually added two orchids to those I had chosen, and they weren't the minatures :)

camille1585 11-29-2010 05:58 AM

I guess you have him well trained!!

RosieC 11-29-2010 06:00 AM

I think he actually quite likes them. He thinks I'm more than a little obsessed, but still quite likes the orchids :)

camille1585 11-29-2010 06:02 AM

I guess you wouldn't have the greenhouse if he didn't like them! But maybe that was just a ploy to get the orchids out of the house? (That you happily refilled I suppose)

jim blanford 11-29-2010 11:55 AM

WOW!! Cam, that looks great, and some of those others, WOW!! again, I have a young one in spike now hope it looks half as good as yours, I'll be posting it soon... Jim

grasshopper 11-29-2010 02:57 PM

I, too, have one but it is also small. Just 1 pbulb, but it's currently blooming (opened up for me on Sunday...woohoo!). If I had the space, I would love to mount it like you've done yours, Camille. But alas...no space. :( (...at least not until I can build a greenhouse. May take me a while to convince my hubby that we really need to. :))

The others in the 6" pot and basket...wow! I have something to look forward to if I can keep mine happy and thriving!

Nic100 11-29-2010 03:27 PM

It's gorgeous Camille. I've checked out that website - talk about spoiled for choice!

I strongly recommend that vendor! Beautiful, healthy and well established plants for a great price. Too bad shipping is so high to the UK.

WhiteRabbit 11-29-2010 03:55 PM

beautiful, Camille! And everyone else's who posted their pix! I have seen these in Trader Joe's on a few occasions - had one in my cart once, but convinced myself I didn't "need" it ...
Might have to rethink that ...

camille1585 12-01-2010 10:26 AM

To Gin and phalaephila, your Lava Burst are really beautiful! I didn't imagine that they could get quite so large. Mine's probably going to need a much larger mount in the future. How long did it take for it to grow to that size?

nenella 12-01-2010 03:56 PM

I have only just seen this post too! very very nice ..it's going on my wish list too!
I too definately recommend N&C to any EU grower. I have got alot of my plants from them & have never been dissappointed. Thanks for posting all the photos guys & gals!
