A prayer for Mike

Hey guys, I wanted to inform you that "mikeurquia" is in intensive care at the hospital. Not a swamp accident. He was having trouble with a cough for several weeks and losing a lot of weight while eating more than usual. They are doing all sorts of exams because they found something in his lung and kidney, they are hoping it is water. I am too. Whatever it is please send a prayer out for him, and visualize him healthy and fully recovered. Thanks.

Grandma M 08-31-2009 11:01 AM

I will surely keep him in my prayers. Please keep us updated.

Marilyn

flhiker 08-31-2009 11:02 AM

Done. Please keep us updated. I certainly don't want to bother his family with calls.

cb977 08-31-2009 11:09 AM

Our friend Mike will certainly be in our thoughts and prayers.

Sending healing wishes his way

Lorraine 08-31-2009 12:14 PM

I will for sure keep Mike in my prayers. I know how powerful prayer is. This time last year you were all praying for my daughter.

RosieC 08-31-2009 12:39 PM

I will be praying for Mike  I pray that the doctors will find the problem and be able to solve it.

Royal 08-31-2009 02:13 PM

He and his family are in my prayers. Get well, Mike.

King_of_orchid_growing:) 08-31-2009 02:43 PM

Cool guy. Hope he gets well and the doctors find out what the problem is and that it's nothing serious and is curable.

Junebug 08-31-2009 05:21 PM

Intensive care? That's awful. I pray it's nothing serious and that he fully recovers. Thank you for letting us know and please keep us updated.

Gin 08-31-2009 06:00 PM

Sending good thoughts and prayers his way . Thank you for letting us know .. Gin

Thanks everyone, I know he'll be back soon, and back in the swamps chasing ghost orchids.
They apparently found something in his kidney that caused a blood clot in his lungs. What's in his kidney is still uncertain and they are running tests to see if they have to perform surgery.
I didn't go see him tonight cause I wanted his family to be with him. I will see him tomorrow morning around 11am and let you know what's up.

You're a good friend Swamper, I know you will give him kind words from all of us.

The hospital confinement has got to be excrutiating for Mike because he's so fond of the great outdoors. He's probably suffering from "Swamp Withdrawal" symptoms in addition to the discomfort of his other ailments and treatments. Poor guy. My prayers are with him.

sucuz 09-01-2009 03:57 PM

My prayers add to the others already offered up. Healing, restoration, renewal, strength, peace.

Roly0217 09-01-2009 04:58 PM

Hello Joe and thank you for letting us know about Mike. My prayers are with him. Have you heard from him or his family today?

dgenovese1 09-01-2009 06:51 PM

Hi Joe,
I really appreciate you letting us know about Mike...I was wondering where he was. Please give him my best and let him know he is in my prayers as well.

And tell him I finally posted the pics from our hike together...maybe that'll help spur him into a speedy recovery.

Peace, David

Definitely sending prayers Mike's way.

Though I've only been on this board a short while, I really do need to meet some of it's local members. Not too many folks I know that share my affliction with orchideliriums.

PitcherASAMD 09-01-2009 07:42 PM

Sending some prayers for a speedy recovery for Mike!

Swamper 09-01-2009 08:05 PM

I don't know how to say this without sounding cold or without getting emotional. I have tried to write this several times today. So here it is. Mike has been diagnosed with cancer. It started in his kidney and has spread to his lung. He will not take chemo and wants to leave. He has planned to go to a place in Mexico called Oasis. I looked it up online and it looks like a great choice. I visualize him making a full recovery, returning healthier than ever, going snook and redfishing in the 10,000 islands and hunting for ghost orchids in the fakahatchee swamp. Please see him in a similar way.
PS.I took him a printout of your prayers and comments. He smiled really big.
Peace

cb977 09-01-2009 08:38 PM

Thanks for making sure Mike knows his friends here are thinking about him and sending him all the best wishes.

I like what you've visualized...I'm with you ;)

What Cancer Cannot Do

Cancer is so limited....
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot eat away peace.
It cannot destroy confidence.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot shut out memories.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot reduce eternal life.
It cannot quench the Spirit.

It's o.k. to get emotional. This is heartbreaking news. I'll continue to pray for Mike's full recovery. I respect his decision for alternative treatment. Drugs and invasive treatments have a history of even further weakening the body.

RosieC 09-02-2009 04:15 AM

This is terrible news, but my prayers for his full recovery will go on.

He has to go with the type of treatment he will feel happiest with, those invasive cancer drugs are terrible things in their own right.

My prayers will be with him and his family

Blueszz 09-02-2009 05:29 PM

This is so heartbreaking. Mike, if you read this, I'll pray for you and your family.
Thinking about you, all from the Netherlands.

I wish him the best and hopes he makes a strong recovery.

Sandy4453 09-02-2009 10:38 PM

I keep coming back to this thread, trying to think of something to say after the latest update and the words aren't coming to me. Words fail except to say that I'm hoping for a winning outcome for Mike.

susiep 09-03-2009 01:52 AM

Swamper, I just read the sad news about Mike. I am so very sorry for him and his family. Please let him know that he is in my thoughts and prayers.

camille1585 09-03-2009 05:18 AM

I just logged in today for the first time in over a month, and I'm saddened to discover such terrible news. It's hard to find words. I hope that the alternative treatment will work out for him and that he'll soon be back in the swamps with his ghosts, where he belongs. My thoughts are with Mike and his family.
I hope Mike makes a speedy recovery, and I know that all of OB is with him in prayer.:gh

Lorraine 09-03-2009 08:23 AM

I just read the latest news about Mike. My heart is so saddened. I will continue to pray for Mike knowing that there are alternative treatments available. We each have to seek what is right for ourselves.

Mike if you read this message..hold on tight, keep positive thoughts and know you have many friends here at OB praying for you.

trdyl 09-03-2009 09:24 AM
