1 Attachment(s)
Here's a photo I took a month ago of one of my mums Oncidiums whilst I was on holiday over there (E.Africa)
No Idea what species it is... Standing next to it the spikes were taller than me...OK I'm only 5'2"! but still.. Enjoy.. |
:yikes: How long has your mum been growing that?
It's fantastic!!! |
It looks like an Oncidium sphacelatum. These things can get huge. I have one that is about four feet across.
|
:yikes: :faint: That thing is HUGE!! The spikes looks absolutely amazing, like a cloud of bees or butterflys flying around. :coverlaugh: Your mom is one very good orchid grower!

|
Wow, what a gorgeous plant. Spectacular! Your mom did good. :bowing I noticed another chid with beautiful blooms hanging behind the geranium.
|
Glad you enjoyed the picture.
Cullen is right it is an Oncidium sphacelatum. Susanne my mother has had the original plant 30 years. She has divided it many times and given to friends. At the moment she has 2 big plants like the one in the photo & 3 smaller ones. She grows them in charcoal. Junebug, the other orchid you see hanging down near the geraniums is a Coelogyne densiflora. |
Thanks nenella :)
That is something to aspire too! I wanna have plants that look like that when I grow up! |
WOW !!!! That's a beautiful display !!! Your mom must be very proud. I've got a smaller one of this guys that I got as a division from a friend and it has 2 spikes right now getting ready to bloom. The lady that gave it to me also has a big specimen. They sure look gorgeous full of blooms !!!!

That's absolutely incredible! Too bad we don't have that kind of weather where I am! I also noticed a cute Hoya in the pot next to the Onc. I'm a fan of them, too :P |
