Ctt. Blue Dynasty x Catt. walkeriana

Strong lemony scent, similar to that of a Catt. walkeriana; according to OrchidRoots, it has 75% walkeriana in it:

Wow--gorgeous! Have you had it long?

KC Kam 05-26-2019 09:48 PM

Very nice!!!

Is it free flowering?

camille1585 05-27-2019 01:53 AM

That's gorgeous!! I bought one earlier this spring and now I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing it bloom!!!

@fishmon:

I've growing this for a year. It came in bark and sphagnum moss mix which was beginning to deteriorate and root was in somewhat bad shape, so I had to repot it as soon as I received it. It is now in semi-hydro setup, and it responded really well. It has tons of new root growths and even bloomed in its first year after repotting, as you can see. :)

@KC Kam:

It is supposed to be able to bloom twice in a year. First in spring, and later in autumn. It has both spring bloomers (purpurata and gaskelliana) and autumn bloomers (walkeriana and bowringiana) in it. :)

Now there is a plant for the wish list. I love anything with walkeriana in it. That lip is amazing.

As the summer heat began to cool down to herald the coming of autumn, it began to put forth a new inflorescence. This time there are three buds.

Actually there are four buds coming out from the sheath. :)
It turns out to be better than what I expected.

Oh YES! Progressive pictures as it blooms please!

camille1585 09-14-2019 11:21 AM

How exciting!!! I love to see progress photos, and look forward to the flowers! Mine now has a sheath developing, so it looks like I'll finally see these beautiful blooms for myself.

Now buds are slowly turning toward the sunlight, aligning themselves nicely. Few more days the resupination process will complete, and the flower will be ready to bloom. :)

The buds finally opened.

But what happened that flower with funky looking top sepal?

http://www.orchidboard.com/community...1&d=1569238356

Oh, no! The dorsal sepal has somehow fused with the column! Two out of four flowers show the deformity. Thankfully, the other two appear to be normal... Maybe the summer heat was the culprit, or maybe the fertilizer was wrong. I hope that it is just a random thing and that I would get normal flower in next season.

Still, the color is super nice :) That deep blue-purple color is just gorgeous.

camille1585 09-23-2019 11:54 AM

Still lovely flowers despite the deformities!! Fingers crossed that it will bloom normally next year.

I have a question for you; when the sheath appeared, did the buds start filling it almost immediately, or is there first an empty sheath for a while? That's what mine is doing, and I've been staring at that sheath for a month!

Sorry for late reply. In my case, it can happen two ways. the buds might emerge as newest growth matures, or a sheath appears first and then the buds slowly grows afterwards. BTW, mine sits on a south facing windowsill without any shades.
