Nobile dens...again
Lest anyone think that plants MUST have a dry, winter rest, check this out, over at the OrchidSource forum:
The Orchid Source Forum: One big thank you |
Thanks for posting this link Ray!
A stunning semi-hydro success. I actually have one small nobile Den. keiki in hydroton semi-hydro style which I've been wondering if I needed to keep dry over winter.. and some nobile Dens in a bark mix. It surprises me that there seem to be a set of rules about how to 'properly' grow orchids- of how things must be done exactly, but many people have done the exact opposite with success not the 'guarenteed' supposed failure. I'm not saying we shouldn't listen and learn from all the knowledge that has built up but at the same time we shouldn't be afraid to try something new- go against the grain as it were. |
I had nobile hybrid for few years. And I tried everything - 'correct' methods, 'incorrect' methods, mixes of methods. But it had never bloomed for me. Some particular plants of the same specie or hybrid seem to be very self-willing while others bloom easily.

Thanks for the info, Ray
I appreciate any and all info that will help me learn what I need to know to keep the 'chids happy :) |

it takes me to a generic page... put my Den formosum in SH today want to make sure it is ok...
|
I put an oriental smile keiki in s/h and it looks very happy. The root is coming out of the bottom of the basket in the pot.
|
what do you do for the winter rest? has it bloomed in S/H?
|
I'm hoping someone who has tried this will answer these posts.
