Repotting oncidiums
Has anybody tried the oncidium mix from repotme? I have 4 oncs ready to repot and would love any input in general about what media has worked for you, or specifically about their product. FYI I live in Michigan, plants spend most of their time indoors, whole house humidifier set to about 47% now that the furnace is starting to run. Thanks for any input

I have used repotme for several different mixes. In general I like them, but I avoid anything that has coco husk chunks in it, as I had some rot when I used that. It holds water longer than any of the other ingredients that they use. Onc. mix with fine bark, perlite, and a bit of granite is fine. I add crushed eggshell to mine, for a bit of extra calcium.

I use Miracle Grow mix. I sift it and rinse it and
put the larger pieces aside for other orchids. I always bought Better Grow at Lowe's and liked it. However, they no longer carry it. I am not crazy about the Miracle Grow. It is fine and silty, but it has worked for my oncidiums.

I use red lava rock for nearly all of my orchids. In the past, I used it on the large Oncidiums I had and now I use it with the Onc. Twinkle. I have a Burr. Nelly Isler that needs more water and I use small chips of the lava rock. It does a nice job staying damp, yet, with the basket pot, there is no rotting of the roots.

I use the imperial oncidium mix from repotme. No trouble at all, I like it.

Well, as an experiment, I mounted an oncidium on a branch with some moss, and it is really doing well. Agreed it needs watering every day in the summer, but it has really stepped up flower production.

In case you're still wondering, I've also used the oncidium mix from RePotme. It has held up really well, though I've been keeping mine in a less humid environment. Used in tandem with their duel net pots, I've had good growth with my Oncidium Twinkle 'Fantasy', which has been making a recovery from illness. Hope that helps!
