okay, so I've got this miltassia whose pseudobulbs seem to be growing out of the pot...bringing it's this with it...
should i repot or not? had a bad experience repotting my oncidium...(all of its old pseudo bulbs are wrinkled after a repot from moss into charcoal/perlite/bark mix, thank goodness the new growths seem to be doing fine...) so I'm wary of tinkering with anything with fine roots. lol...
I'm wary of repotting those with fine roots as well. The best time to repot with when new roots are forming/about to form, so maybe this is a good time
Giving this a bump and going to move it to the potting/repotting section in the help someone will chime in.
I've re-potted my Royal Robe into similar media as it had been in with no problem. So it may have been adjusting. Mine is currently much more overgrown than yours. I'm not sure I would re-pot unless the media is old. There seems to be lots of space around the edges of the pot for more growth. These do tend to grow upward a bit so even re-potting it will not be easy to get the roots of the new growth into the media. I have some like that on mine and they seem to do fine and maybe feed off the older bulbs and what moisture it gets from the air. And when I water I try to get a bit on the roots. That's just my thought.
it's a fairly new plant and does have a lot of room in the pot still... currently it's still in the original spag moss... right now I'll just mist those roots when i water the rest of the plant...
I agree with silken. My Royal Robe has much less room around the edges, but I don't plan on re-potting until next year, and it also tends to grow upward. Mine is planted in bark though, and from what I understand moss breaks down faster than a bark medium. You may have to re-pot even if the pot is big enough if the moss has broken down.
well, i only got it late last year...the moss still seems pretty fresh. The oncidium i got from the same nursery (and repotted) had fresh moss also but it was super packed. i think I'll wait anyways...

Just be careful to let it approach barely damp in the bottom and centre. You could put a bamboo kebab skewer down into the pot and leave it there. Pull it out each time you think it's time to water. If it is very damp, it may be too soon. Put it back into the same place each time so as not to stab a bunch of roots. I use this in lots of my pots. Often it seems dry and the bottom and centre core are rather wet still.
