well, i only got it late last year...the moss still seems pretty fresh. The oncidium i got from the same nursery (and repotted) had fresh moss also but it was super packed. i think I'll wait anyways...

Just be careful to let it approach barely damp in the bottom and centre. You could put a bamboo kebab skewer down into the pot and leave it there. Pull it out each time you think it's time to water. If it is very damp, it may be too soon. Put it back into the same place each time so as not to stab a bunch of roots. I use this in lots of my pots. Often it seems dry and the bottom and centre core are rather wet still.
