Default Help how to feed phalenopsis in decorative vase

As my second son started growing, I ended up with two toddlers running around and little if no time for me and my precious orchids.I was literally for getting to water, feed them etc ( please note in summer in Malta we get quite high temps!!) then a friend of mine suggested to repot them in glass vases with marble underneath to prevent the roots from staying in water. ( I'm still in the learning process when it comes to wording, I don't know if this would be semi-hydro method?!). However my concern is about the best way to feed the orchids...

thanks in advance

It's not semi-hydro (or it might be considered s/h culture not done well {insert grin here}), as you're using an organic medium, and there's no drainage to allow flushing.

First let me state that I would not grow the plants that way. However, if I did, about once every couple of weeks I would add a very low concentration of fertilizer to moderately warm water (30°-35°C) - maybe 25 ppm N - and slowly dribble it on the top surface of the bark, so it can be absorbed as it trickles down through it.

I wouldn't grow them that way either. It would be too difficult to give it just the right amount of water, since there isn't complete drainage. I agree with Ray. Flushing the medium with clear water is important.

First of all thanks to you ray and vanda for both your replies. In reality although I saw a remarkable difference, I'm not 100% happy with them, and I did not used this method for all my orchids. for now I think I will leave them to see what will happen.I'll keep you posted.
Meantime I'll take ray advice as regard feeding, thanks again
