Potting mix for Encyclia Radiata?

ya what james says. Mine is bustin out the pot and its planted in straight small orchiata bark. Not a whole lot of it left either as its mostly roots. Likes it hot and 70% shaded like everything else I have. I keep it moist as I can but it doesnt mind getting a little dry once in awhile to harden up the roots some. Had 3 bulbs last time and its got 5 new growths so I say Happy Happy Happy in small bark

try to keep water off the leaves for too long. the leaves will get spotty if you let water stay on top of them overnight. soft leafed orchids dont like wet leaves at night

Thanks Brooke. I'd love to see a pic of the radiata on a mount. Is it hanging or flat on the bench? I am looking for interesting pieces of wood and lava rock to use as mounts. I'm going to mount minis.

James it is one a rather large piece of cork - guessing - 10x12. It is now growing around the edge of the mount on both sides. It hangs.

Are you going to sandwich that to a larger mount or just let it continue around to the back and make a 3D mount? I have a large group of C. Intermedia that are slowly filling in around a piece of foam. It is getting ready to bloom. Here....

It is wrapping itself around the mount. It is so heavy I can barely lift it now and adding a bigger mount would make it too heavy to move.

I have many mounts that have consumed their mounts and they hang suspended, not against a wire wall.

Love to see it. I think there is a certain beauty to some mounted orchid colonies. At Cal pacific Orchids in Encinitas, Ca they had a beautiful BLC something or other on a nice flat but textured wooden mount. I am trying to get as many small minis onto a long rescue board. Next spring I will go back up to SBOE and get a bunch more small minis to fill it out.

Very easy to grow and to flower. I got a division of Encylcia radiata last year October. It's in buds and flowers now. Fragrance is amazing. I grow mine with my Phalaenopsis in a bark mix. My leaves are spotted probably due to water not dry off - and plants are crowded. This is what it looks like after I trim its leaves.

I'm resurrecting this old thread. Now named Anacheilium radiatum...mine needs a Repot. I can go back to a clay pot and small bark or a spagh mix or, I have a tree fern pot. This us a fast grower so I thought of the tree fern or I'm open to suggestions. How do you grow yours? Mine, but the way, has the scent if rancid cat pee, the grower told me it smelled like bubblegum. Also, if anyone has a picture could you post it?

Maybe the grower sets his bubblegum down on the counter and uses it again after the cat has visited.

Its close relative Anacheilum cochleatum grows on trees in the Everglades. It is very humid there, so the roots probably don't dry out much. In a lower-humidity home-growing situation, it shouldn't stay dry too long.
