I know the kind that you're talking about. That is another option that I hadn't thought of. Thanks.

You are in S. Florida, why not attach the whole thing to a tree and let it do what it would do in nature?

Actually I would love to do that but I live in a townhouse so I don't have any trees, only a small screened patio.

I've had similar situations with mounted orchids taking over the entire slab. When I haven't been able to find a way to add additional mounting material without damaging the plant, I have either slipped the entire mount into a basket or pot and added a hanger or just let it sit on the bench. Good luck with your mounties.

I've got a Den lindleyi v.aggreatum that is on a disintegrating mount, an old piece of branch that is now losing its bark and just...looks way past its due date. Trying to find solutions and advice as to what to do...?
The plant has not grown p/bulbs on all sides yet, and I could fasten something new to the existing old mount, but I'm considering just laying down the old mount in a basket with a coir layer and just let the plant sort itself out from there. Do you think it might become a problem that there is an old piece of (rotting?) wood/mount in there somewhere?
I'm reluctant to trying to pry the plant of the old mount, but at the same time I'm worrying about that this old piece of wood might become this soggy centre in the growth medium that will cause root rot and all sorts of problems down the road...

Tucker, if you haven't already done anything with it I have an idea (groan, not another hair brained scheme). Ha!!! I wish I could draw it out for you but I can't even draw a crooked line so here goes. On the side with the oldest pbulbs, take a razor blade and cut between the pbulbs in as straight a line as you can. Then use a drill or whatever you can find to cut away the mount. Cut the mount from the inside out. Just whittle away at the mount material until most of it is gone. As much as you can. Center out. When the whole mass is pliable enough, just unwrap the entire mass and attach that to another mount. Like a can that you cut down the side and unwrap. That make any sense? I hope so. Yes the meds are wearing off. Ok. Just a thought.

Oh yeah!!! Do you have a picture of them? I'd love to see them. Maybe I can conjure up some more hair brained schemes. Pics please!!!
