This is a Sobrailia decora that I bought as a small (as decora goes) division. It had a good size root system so I potted it up in a gallon size container. That was 2 years ago. This spring I tossed it out in the garden and forgot about it til this morning. The monster split open its pot like the hulk and I had to pull roots out of the ground. Not bad for a tropical orchid growing in NY!
Paul that doesn't surprise me at all, they love fresh air and fairly bright light and are known for their massive root system. You may have found the secret to their growing well, benign neglect.
The flowers are fantastic, Paul, and the plant looks quite attractive too--unlike many of my cattleyas, which often appear (in spite of my best efforts) as if they've been run over by a bicycle several times. Are the blooms fragrant?
