These flowers are utterly fascinating, though I've had clones with better form.

A fragrant masdevallia! Looks like another one for my "to get" list. I think I have a suitable spot outdoors where they could grow and just do their thing, was thinking of letting one grow on a tree fern we have growing in the front garden.

This one is really fragrant, Ron. It will perfume a whole room when in bloom. M. strobelii is another that is strongly scented, in fact, most of the Saltatrices group are scented though some not very strongly.

That's really good to know. Just got my first masdevallia last year and it's already bloomed twice, so learning about them. So far they're the easiest to grow orchids I've gotten. Thanks for always taking the time to make a nice reply.

Gorgeous colours! A favourite species to look at. Thanks for sharing Ron.

Thanks ever so much, Tindo. We've been away and so I haven't been on OB much, but hope to post a bunch of orchids again next week.

Very, very nice! Is this a cool grower or does it prefer int. temps?

This is a cool grower in my experience and likes damp, low light and good humidity.

I had mine growing with my other cool growing masdies but it just didn't seem happy, so I moved it inside with my intermediate growers and it's doing much better. The book Masdevallias: Gems of the orchid world says they prefer intermediate but can even grow warm, so I guess they are very variable. Perhaps try growing it cool and see how it does. I think they decline quicker when grown too warm than too cool so you can always move it if it looks like it isn't thriving.
