Default Masd. welischii closeup

Not as large as coccinea or veitchiana but still spectacular:

Thanks, Joann and Connie. It's really lovely, isn't it? Probably the largest Masdevallia I grow.

Gorgeous. The third picture on your blog looks like it's mimicing your avatar (I believe the avatar is veitchianna is that right). It's a great angle shot.

This is a really nice Masdie which I think I might have to get. What sort of conditions does it need compared to something like veitchianna (which I grow and is iminently about to flower for the 3rd time )

Hi Rosie,

It grows about the same as veitchiana, in fact, it looks like veitchiana when it's out of flower - if you are growing the one you'll be able to grow this.

Should have mentioned that my avatar is indeed veitchiana.

I really will have to try and get this one then. I'm amazed how well my veitchianna is doing, it's got 4 spikes at the momment, the biggest one should not be long now I think

When I first saw your pictures on Picasa I thought they were veitchianna pictures until I read the name.

The flowers are considerably smaller than veitchiana and unlike veitchiana they are virtually without hairs on the lower sepals, i.e., they look more two- colored than veitchiana.
