Dracula vampira, black beauty!
Here it is, finally! And with two floral stems! I am really happy with this black beauty because I have been growing it for years and it had flowered only one time three years ago I think... While I kept it cultivated in three fern fiber it did not bloom. A year ago I decided to change it to pure sphagnum moss and here it is showing its beautiful, large black flower!
I took a close up photo of the free lip showing its pouch-like shape.

That is very different! I can't say I like it and can't say I don't. I've never seen anything like this. It's definitely bizarre!

Didn't I suggest pure sphagnum to you a while back? That's what I grow my D. lotax in and it does super. Multiple spikes at same time during cooler temps. Now that temps are getting hotter, she's quit spiking.

Yes, you did, Ross. And I moved almost all my Dracs to sphagnum, except for a few that I didn't want to mess up with because they are or were still in flower until recently.

I don't believe, Marty. It needs at least four to six months with lower night temperatures (55-60F) and at least three months with temps going as low as 45-50F in the dawn.

Marty, I had success with D. lotax after submitting it to low 60s at night in winter. The lower, the better. Perhaps a cold-running fan will help?
