Restrepia erm, uhh...
Hi everyone. I've got this delightful little thing, which I purchased as Restrepia erythroxantha. However, when it finally bloomed, the flowers didn't resemble any pictures of that species I'd seen before:

Any thoughts on what it could be?

You are brilliant, Gwen! And what a great resource - thanks for sharing it. It does look like Restrepia trichoglossa, especially the '0854' and '333' varieties. Wow, there's a lot of variability in this species. How do people ever manage to make a positive identification when they find these things in situ? ![Shocked](https://www.orchidboard.com/community/images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)

Gorgeous! What are the cultural conditions?
Gwen, thanks for sharing that link, been trying to find something like that for a while.

Orchidhunter,
This looks to be a typical Restrepia striata (aka Restrepia brachypus)...
Restrepia trichoglossa is very similar except for the hairy ( tricho-) labellum ( glossa, 'tongue').
Restrepia striata was once known as Restrepia brachypus, and Restrepia trichoglossa was once known as Restrepia brachypus subsp. serrilabia... that's how closely related they are
Also, within the genus Restrepia, there is MUCH variation within a species...

Mahon: I'm sorry. . .did you say "tricho glossa" (hairy tongue)? I am really going to have to order one of these.
Thank you so much for this additional information, it's very interesting! And very much appreciated!!! I had no idea that there was SO much variation within the species.
Interestinck!
